Review: Hallowed Ground

Book Review: Hallowed Ground, by Rebecca Yarros, 4 stars

Josh Walker is loyal, reckless and every girl's dream. But he only has eyes for December Howard, the girl he's craved since his high school days.

Ember never wanted the Army life, but loving Josh means accepting whatever the army dictates-even when that means saying goodbye as Josh heads to Afghanistan as a medevac pilot.

Filling their last days together with love and plans for their future doesn't temper Ember's fears, and if there's one thing she's learned from her father's death, it's that there are some obstacles even love can't conquer . . .

Genre: contemporary romance/military romance

Review: Hallowed Ground is book 4 in the Flight and Glory series by Rebecca Yarros, and closely follows Full MeasuresEyes Turned Skyward and Beyond What is Given. In this fourth book we return to Josh and Ember, the couple from book 1, and to what happens after their happily ever after. And what happens is, obviously, life - the good, the wonderful, but also the bad and the ugly.

Hallowed Ground is a deeply emotional book. Very, very sad in some places, but with the underlying message that love does pull you through even the darkest of moments.

The only thing it irked me a bit is how much Josh wavers. how much he goes back and forth over the same issues even after Ember tells him in a million ways that her love for him will always be there. That she will always be there. In the end all works out, but it was a long, difficult path, and here and there I had my doubts.

In any case, Hallowed Ground is a great addition to the series but one that definitely should not be read as a stand alone. I've now moved on to the fifth and last book and hope to post a review of that one soon too.

Happy readings!
