Review: Full Measures

Book Review: Full Measures, by Rebecca Yarros, 4 stars

Three knocks can change everything.

Twenty years as an army brat and Ember Howard knew . . . the soldiers at the door meant her dad was never coming home. What she didn't know was how she would find the strength to care for her crumbling family while her mum fell apart.

Then, hockey star Josh Walker enters her life.

He has a way of erasing the pain with a single look, a single touch. As much as she wants to turn off her feelings and endure the heartache on her own, she can't deny their intense attraction.

But when Josh's secret shatters their world, Ember must decide if he's worth the risk that comes with loving a man who could strip her bare.

Genre: contemporary romance

Publication date: July 2021

Mature content: yes

Review: Rebecca Yarros can always whip up the best book boyfriends, and Josh is no exception. I loved the insight into military families and the ups and downs (mostly downs, in this book) that come with military life. And I loved Josh Walker.

My only concern (and the main reason I'm rating Full Measures with four stars instead of five) is the fact that for the first three quarters of the book I almost had no idea how Josh came to be so interested in Ember's life. Yes, they'd met at high school, but then didn't see each other for years, and suddenly he's bursts back into her life and doesn't let go anymore.

And yes, everything is sort of explained at the end, but the feeling that their relationship went from zero to infinite in just a couple of seconds kind of never left me.

Other than that, Full Measures is a wonderful romance story.

Happy readings!
