Review: Rebel

Book Review: Rebel, by Rebecca Yarros, 5 stars

She's Penna Carstairs. AKA, Rebel.

Named FMX-treme Magazine's sexiest female athlete of the year - there's no rule in extreme sports she hasn't broken, no gender barrier she hasn't demolished.

She's the mysterious stranger I met in a bar, the one I spent one insane, incredible night with. And now I'm screwed. Or rather . . . not screwed.

Because the woman I can't get out of my head is the one woman I can never touch again. I'm Dr. Cruz Delgado - the youngest professor on campus.

And Penelope Carstairs just walked into my class.

Genre: contemporary romance

Publication date: August 2024

Mature content: yes

Review: Rebel is book 3 in the Renegades series by Rebecca Yarros and, in terms of timeline, closely follows the other two books (Wilder and Nova). This one is, by far, my favorite in the series. Wilder and Nova were good, but somehow Rebel takes everything to a different level.

I love the way Penna and Cruz meet, re-meet and fall in love. I love that while they do keep secrets from each other, they never really let those secrets ruin their relationship - instead, they go stronger. Somehow their romance felt more adult, older and wiser, that Pax and Leah (from book 1) or Landon and Rachel (from book 2).

I also love how, right at the beginning of the book the characters from the Flight and Glory series make a quick appearance. It's just a few lines and you will miss it if you haven't read those books, but it make me smile all the same.

And the best of all? The epilogue that covers all six main characters from the 3 books and their happy lives five years down the line. Swoon worthy. So while I'm a bit sad that this was the last book in the series, I couldn't have asked for a better ending.

I definitely recommend Rebel, although it's not exactly a stand alone book and you should read the other two first.

Happy readings!
