Review: Royally Roma

Book Review: Royally Roma, by Teri Wilson, 3 stars

Julia Costa is too busy trying to complete her PhD while also holding down a full-time job as a private tour guide in Rome to keep up with celebrity gossip. So when she crosses paths with a real, actual prince, she mistakes him for a client and takes him on a daylong tour of the city.

Intrigued by the idea of spending time with someone who obviously has no idea who he is, and delighted at the prospect of a day free of royal obligations, Niccolo La Torre, Crown Prince of Lazaretto, acts on impulse and assumes the role of Julia’s client. He swears to himself that he’ll return to his royal duties after only half a day…but he’s having the time of his life.

Until Julia presents him with the bill. Since he snuck out of the hotel without so much as a dime, he tries to escape, only to discover that she won’t let him out of her sight until he can pay her back. She’s determined to get her money…and perhaps more from the handsome stranger she’s fallen for.

Review: Royally Roma is actually the first book in the The Royals series by Teri Wilson (you can read my reviews of book 2, Royally Romanov here, and of book 3, Royally Wed, here). Each book in the series is a completely stand alone story, so they can be read in any order you want.

And actually, in my opinion, this book 1 is the weakest link in the series. While the story is, on the surface, as compelling as the other two, when you look at the details they don't really add up, which makes the plot a lot less convincing - starting with Nico's deception and Julia's kidnapping attempt. Also, the ending is rushed and there are lots of things left unexplained. The romance is lovely and heartwarming, but it does suffer with the shortcomings of the rest of the plot.

So, while I loved the other two books, Royally Roma isn't the one I would actively recommend. In any case, this series doesn't seem to be available for purchase right now, at least not on Amazon, so if anyone can find out these books still being sold anywhere, let me know and I'll share the links here.
