Review: Honor's Knight

Book Review: Honor's Knight, by Rachel Bach, 4 stars

After a mysterious attack left her short several memories and one partner, she's determined to keep her head down, do her job, and get on with her life. But even though Devi's not actually looking for it -- trouble keeps finding her. She sees things no one else can, the black stain on her hands is growing, and she is entangled with the cook she's supposed to hate. But when a deadly crisis exposes far more of the truth than she bargained for, Devi discovers there's worse fates than being shot, and sometimes the only people you can trust are the ones who want you dead.

Review: Just like with book one in this Paradox series (Fortune's Pawn), I found Honor's Knight a book slightly difficult to get into. Just like book one, I even considered giving it up, because I just couldn't see the story moving in any way I expected. Or liked.

And yet, just like with book one, I came to a point where I just couldn't put it down. There's a lot happening in Honor's Knight, and it's hard to keep up with all the twists and turns and all the strange alien beings, but once you're hooked into the story, you just can't let go.

I still don't like Devi all that much (and probably never will) - she's rude and impulsive, and I can't help but feel that half the problems she faces are really her fault. Don't expect a lot of romance in Honor's Knight, as Devi and Rupert are at odds for most of the time - and by being "at odds" I really mean they try to kill each other multiple times - so this book is more a tale of epic space adventures than anything else.

It is, however, an adventure that started with Fortune's Pawn and (hopefully) ends with Heaven's Queen. It's not meant to be read as a stand alone in any way.

Happy readings,
