Review: Revenge

Book Review: Revenge, by Tana Stone, 3 stars

Some betrayals demand vengeance—no matter the cost.

I was left for dead, and now I want revenge. The only thing standing in my way is Deklyn—the cocky Inferno Force warrior who helped rescue me and who now thinks he can protect me from myself. The gorgeous alien gets under my skin, but I refuse to admit how much I crave his touch.

When I stow away on his ship, he's furious and determined to return me to the Drexian Academy. But he also knows I'll hunt my enemies with or without his help, and he hates the thought of missing a good fight. What we don't expect is how dangerous our chemistry will become—or how deadly the forces trying to stop us.

As we take on powers determined to bury the truth, we discover that some secrets are worth killing for—and some are worth dying for. But will getting my revenge cost me the warrior I'm falling for?

Review: Secrecy is book five in Tana Stone's Warriors of the Drexian Academy series, and closely follows books one (Legacy), two (Loyalty), three (Legend), four (Obsession) and five (Secrecy). Like the other books, this one has a different set of main characters, but part of the story is also told from the POV of characters from the previous books, and you need that background to understand the plot, which makes it difficult to read as a stand alone.

Revenge is also the final book in the series, so there's a sort of joint epilogue/happily ever after for all the couples involved. That part, I kind of liked.

The rest? No so much? There's zero action in this book, just one character plotting revenge, the other ending up getting involved, and the two of them getting entangled in a fake engagement and the corresponding wedding preparations. And the worst thing is that I failed to understand why their marriage could gather so much interest and actually result in those involved in Sasha's imprisonment confessing to their misdeeds. That is the basic premise of the whole plot and, quite frankly, seems unrealistic and too flimsy to me.

So, three stars for a fun ending to the series but I definitely think the first books were the best and the last ones just dragged on the plot until the overall happy ending.
