Review: Romancing Mister Bridgerton

Book Review: Romancing Mister Bridgerton, by Julia Quinn, 4 stars

Penelope Featherington has secretly adored her best friend’s brother for . . . well, it feels like forever. After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret . . . and fears she doesn’t know him at all. Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought of as nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can’t seem to publish an edition without mentioning him. But when Colin returns to London from a trip abroad, he discovers nothing in his life is quite the same—especially Penelope Featherington! The girl who was always simply there is suddenly the girl haunting his dreams. When he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide . . . is she his biggest threat— or his promise of a happy ending?

Genre: historical romance

Publication date: November 2015

Review: Romancing Mister Bridgerton is book 4 in the Bridgerton Series by Julia Quinn (you can read my reviews of book one, book two and book three).

While I did love Colin and Penelope's love story, books one (Simon and Daphne) and two (Anthony and Kate) are still my favorite in the series - and not just because of the romance but also for the whole background, especially the interactions between the Bridgerton siblings which are, more often than not, totally priceless.

With Colin and Penelope, not only I found part of that background missing, I also found something missing between the two them - Penelope has been in love with Colin since forever, but she really knows little about him; and Colin, truth be told, seems to treat Penelope like everyone else - that is, as if she were invisible - almost until the very end.

Above rantings aside, it's still a lovely book and an important piece in the series, but I don't think it's the best one so far.

Happy readings,
