Review: Hit and Run

Book Review: Hit and Run, by Lori Matthews, 4 stars

The self-reliant, fiercely independent hacker knows she’ll need help if she’s going to survive her latest contract to build cutting-edge facial recognition software.

And despite the fact the aggravating, yet handsome man hired to protect her makes it clear he’s just there to do a job... it doesn’t stop her from appreciating how ruggedly sexy he is.

Gage Callahan knew his latest assignment for Callahan Security would be a disaster.

He scoured all of Europe trying to locate the computer programmer he was hired to protect only to discover she’s actually a hacker hiding in Alaska.

It will take all his ingenuity to focus on the primary objective of getting her and the prototype software safely to New York…especially with a growing fatal attraction he’s developed for the spunky woman.

Dani’s in deeper than she’ll admit, but her answers don’t explain why those who want her dead are always one step ahead.

It will take his military skills and her hacking know-how to save their lives and the undeniable fire that’s developed between them in the face of danger.

Review: Hit and Run is book 3 in the Callahan Security series by Lori Matthews (read my reviews of book one and book two) and while it's an entertaining read and better than book two, in my opinion it's still not as good as book one.

I had high expectations for this book, but in the end both main characters disappointed me a bit, especially Gage - for all his military background, his just doubts himself too much. And there are several details in the plot that never made complete sense to me - in particular Gage's insistence that he has to go to the gym in the middle of what, in the end, is a rescue operation.

Ultimately each of the books can be read as a stand alone, but the background plot is common and develops along the three installments of the series.

Overall, if you love the genre, my advice is that you should start with book one and go from there.

Happy readings!
