Review: The Tempest Blade

Book Review: The Tempest Blade, by Danielle Jensen, 5 stars

A fugitive on the run, Ahnna has one goal: return to Ithicana with warning of the greatest threat her homeland has ever faced. But as she escapes into the wilderness, it is with the man who broke her heart hunting at her heels—and James wants more than justice. He wants revenge.

Desperate to prove his loyalty to his family, James ventures into dangerous territory to capture his father’s killer. But the longer he follows Ahnna’s trail, the more his certainty of her guilt is tested—and the more the passion they once shared reignites.

As schemes twist tighter and war brews, Ahnna and James discover that the enemy isn’t each other—it is the masterminds manipulating them both in pursuit of power. Yet their greatest obstacle remains, because their loyalties are to opposing sides in the battle to come. As the storms of the Tempest Seas lower their defenses, James and Ahnna must choose where their hearts lie: on the battlefield, or in each other’s arms.

Review: Just amazing! The Tempest Blade is the sixth and last book in the Bridge Kingdom series and the final installment in Ahnna and James' story. I waited a year to read it, but it was totally worth it, a truly impressive accomplishment, tying up five previous books of complex plots and character development in a seamless and highly satisfying way.

From start to finish, the book is a wild ride, a fast paced roller-coaster of emotions. The action, political scheming, and betrayals are non-stop, keeping readers on edge and guessing right until the very end.

The focus remains on Ahnna and James, who start the book as a fugitive and her pursuer, creating an enemies-to-lovers dynamic. The tension and angst as they are forced to become reluctant allies—while war brews and their loyalties remain to opposing sides—is gripping.

What makes this conclusion particularly exceptional is the decision to bring back all the narrators and POVs from the entire series. This massive scope allows the story to tackle schemes upon schemes, ensuring every powerful player has a role to play in the final struggle to save Ithicana. It is an incredible ending to the series and the epilogue is heartwarming and provides a perfect, satisfying send-off for every character.

Please note that although each set of two books in the series is focused on two different main characters, they are all interconnected and follow the same sequential background plot. This means that The The Tempest Blade is not a book to be read as a stand alone. You should read all books in the series in the correct order - which should not be a hardship, since the entire series is great!

I finished reading The Tempest Blade just a couple of days ago and I'm already missing the characters and the series and wishing there could be more books coming our way...

Happy readings!
