Brant's world was shaped by tragedy. And in that broken world, he found his purpose in June—the one girl he was never meant to love. He's been by her side through every milestone, every joy, every sorrow. But as the years pass, innocent devotion turns into something deeper, something dangerous... something they can't ignore.

Review: This is only the third book I've read by this author, but I'm starting to think Ms. Hartmann is the queen of writing taboo romances in a very tasteful way, weaving forbidden love stories that are as beautiful as they are inevitable.
My only concern with this book was that while the evolution of Brant's feelings for June is clear as he grows, June's "falling in love" seemed much more rushed. It's like she'd never thought about it until the moment she kisses Brant on a teenage dare, which for me took out a bit of magic from their romance.
But while June First may not be my all time favorite, I have to say it's very well written, a time-spanning narrative anchored in a complex found-family drama, exploring the razor-thin line between loyalty and longing. If you're comfortable navigating the ins and outs of a romance that society generally views as wrong and forbidden, then June First is still very much recommended.
Happy readings!
