Review: Taming 7

Book Review: Taming 7, by Chloe Walsh, 4 stars

Tommen's cheekiest lad, Gerard 'Gibsie' Gibson, has always been a comedian, but most people don't see what lurks beneath the surface. He is haunted by events of the past and he uses humor to cope, hiding his true self from the world.

Claire Biggs, the epitome of sunshine, has always loved Gibsie, her brother's friend and her favorite neighbor. She has always seen a side to him that no one else seems to notice. She becomes determined to tame her wild-at-heart childhood best friend.

When lines are crossed, it becomes unclear whether Gibsie and Claire's friendship will survive. Will it blossom into something more, or will they lose themselves in the wild?

Review: Taming 7 is the fifth book in the Boys of Tommen series and the one that brings us Claire and Gibsie's full story.

Like the rest of the series, it's not an easy book to read and contains a lot of heavy subjects, but it's very well written and once you start it, it will be hard to put down (even though the first two in this series, Johnny and Shannon's story, will always be my favorite).

My only concern (and the reason for the four stars rating) is that I find the kids' dialogues at ages around ages 5 and 6 pretty unrealistic. They sound like adults - or late teenagers, at the very least - and not pre-school children.

Still recommended though, with two warnings: make sure you are comfortable with the list of triggers before reading this book (the whole series, really) and if that is the case, then start with book one to get the full context of all the characters.

Happy readings!
