Review: The Husband Recipe

Book Review: The Husband Recipe, by Lisa Winstead Jones, 3 stars

A muddy baseball crashing through her office window is just the beginning of Lauren’s new neighbor turning her life upside down.

Cole Donovan is a sexy single dad who doesn’t tick any of the boxes on Lauren’s list of requirements for the perfect man. He’s too tall. Her list specifies no jocks and no kids, and he fails on both counts. Maybe if his brood was more well-behaved she might look past those failings, but the last thing she needs is the chaos that comes with Cole and his three uncontrollable children.

Cole isn’t looking for a woman to take the place of his late wife. His kids need all of him, without distraction. Still, it isn’t long before Lauren works her way into their lives and their hearts, even though she’s not his type. He struggles to make it through every day with his home and his kids intact. Lauren has her day, and her life, planned down to the last detail.

Is their unexpected love strong enough to last when it seems that everything, and everyone, is working against them?

Genre: contemporary romance

Mature content: yes

Review: I loved the idea behind this book (I'm a sucker for these love stories) but not so much the way it was delivered. There were too many stereotypes and too much repetition (can we please not read in every other page that Cole is too tall for Lauren's taste? It's not like the poor man can change that, right? And we do get the point that Cole does not want more children the first time he thinks about it, not need to insist).

The Husband Recipe is a fun, quick read when you need a break from more serious books but not one I would actively recommend otherwise.

Happy readings!
