Book Review: A Cursed Son, by Day Leitao, 4 stars

In her dreams, he envelops her in love. In real life, he imprisons her in ice.
Assassin, liar, impersonator—dreamer.
As a royal decoy, trained to replace the Krastel princess even in a political marriage, Astra’s life is not her own. With a duty like that, how can she dream about love?
And yet she knows she has a kindred soul. She can feel his presence every night, holding her in his arms, surrounding her with his warmth.
But ice-cold reality crashes in when Astra’s carriage is attacked by the Crystal Court’s disgraced prince. Banished for heinous crimes and armed with powerful stolen relics, he’s a wielder of mighty magic and can even infiltrate minds.
It turns out that he is the man in her dreams.
And this is about to get very, very awkward...

Review: A Cursed Son is book 1 in the Remnants of the Fallen Kingdom series and, overall, I liked it very much. It took me a while to get into the story and the characters, but after that it turned into an enchanting journey into a world of fae courts, magic, suspense and political intrigue, and I found it difficult to put down.

The book is fun, action-packed, and engaging, but there were some parts of the plot that either seemed disconnected from the rest or then not followed through - hence my 4 stars rating instead of 5. The execution of the enemies-to-lovers trope, with the gradual shift from adversaries to allies, is nicely crafted though, and as I advanced in the story I was really rooting for Astra and Marlak.

Note that A Cursed Son leaves ends on a cliffhanger, so to get the rest of Astra and Marlak's story it's necessary to move on to the next installment in the series.

Happy readings!
