“Men like that are not what you need.”

I felt the weight of his words and scoffed. “Oh, and what type of man is it that I need? Someone like you?”

His jaw tightened, and he tilted his head. “Maybe.”

What does he mean by that? Is he just trying to get under my skin?

“Ugh. Damon, move out of my way.” I whacked my hand on his arm, trying to show my dominance.

He let out a cruel laugh. “Look at you trying to act tough. Don’t make me fix your attitude, Hilly.”

His little remark definitely got under my skin. I shoved him again, but he didn't flinch. He grabbed and pulled me in, his face close to my ear, his breath warm across my skin. “I heard you whimper my name. You were touching yourself and thinking of me, weren't you, Hilly? You thought you were quiet…”

Oh, fuck.

I gulped loudly, my heart beating in my chest as I tried to pull away. I was speechless, my mind a whirlpool of feelings—the closeness of his body and how his words wrapped around me like a vise had me reeling.

For a moment, I was paralyzed, torn between the desire to deny everything and the crushing reality of what he had just said.

I finally found my voice, however it was shaky and uncertain. “Damon, I⁠—”

“You pictured me touching you,” he breathed.”
