Callie
Never in a million years did I think I would get married to a stranger.
But here I am, marrying a man I’ve never met, and that's not even the worst part.
He doesn't want me. It’s clear in the way he looks at me, like he would rather be anywhere else but here with me.
What have I gotten myself into?
Talon
My sister has done some questionable things, but this surprise wedding trumps it all. If it wasn’t for my father breathing down my neck about an heir, I would never even consider going through with this.
But here I am, marrying a woman I’ve never met.
Let’s just hope she knows what she is getting herself into.
Genre: contemporary romance
Publication date: May 2024
Mature content: yes
Review: No, sorry, this book didn't work for me. I wasn't expecting a novella, but that's not really why I didn't like it.
There's little connection between the synopsis and the book itself, other than the fact that the plot does revolve around and arranged marriage. There's zero buildup between Callie and Talon, zero chemistry, and I have no idea where the "I love yous" at the end come from.
Because past the wedding day what you have is a succession of sex scenes until Callie is kidnapped, Talon moves in to save her, kills a few bad guys (note that he's part of a mafia family as well, so the definition of "bad guy" in this book is up for debate), and apparently Callie is ok with all that because (a) Talon is good in bed, (b) she already got the money she needed and where that money came from doesn't seem to bother her, (c) she "loves" him and (d) she seems to have little inclination to stand up for herself and is looking for someone to "take are of her."
So no, this is definitely not a book I would recommend. The best think about it is that it's a novella, and a short one at that, so it doesn't take too long to go through it.
Happy readings otherwise!
