Review: Warrior Forbidden

Book Review: Warrior Forbidden, by Samantha Charlton, 4 stars

Ava’s life has been dedicated to protecting the sacred flame upon a dying planet. Years ago, she swore a life of chastity and obedience to honor the Gods, yet now everything she cares about is under threat.

A group of religious extremists are targeting her and the temple she guards. Her order needs help, but that means letting men set foot in her temple—something that hasn’t happened in a thousand years.

Jax commands a corps of elite soldiers. The Guardians of the Flame have been tasked to guard the Sisters of Awe, to train them in self-defense—and to deal with the insurgents who will stop at nothing to create chaos.

When Jax and Ava meet a battle of wills begins. She wants as little interference in the daily life of her temple as possible, while he’s determined to make some big changes to ensure her safety.

Sparks fly—but what starts off as animosity between Ava and the stubborn commander, soon becomes something else entirely.

Something forbidden to them both.

Review: Warrior Forbidden is book four in the Galactic Clan Wars series and the only one that steers a bit off course in relation to the previous three books, as it features a completely different set of characters (other than Jenna, from book one, and Elijah, from book three, who make a small appearance in Warrior Forbidden), and a different (although interconnected) context. As such, it can be perfectly read as a stand alone (although I would recommend yo to start with book one and read them all).

Warrior Forbidden would have actually been my favorite in the whole series if it weren't for the rushed ending, I loved both Ava and Jax as main characters, loved to see their relationship develop. And in the end they just run together and the story ends (except for a small epilogue). What passes for their happily ever after moment didn't really feel like closure to me.

Hopefully, though, this means that there will be more books in the series in the future. And if there are, I will definitely want to read them...

Happy readings,
