Review: Bride

Book Review: Bride, by Ali Hazelwood, 5 stars

Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast—again. Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are over: she has been called upon to uphold a historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, and she sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange—again...

Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It’s clear from the way he tracks Misery’s every movement that he doesn’t trust her. If only he knew how right he was….

Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she's ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what’s hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory…alone with the wolf.

Review: I've been a fan of Ali Hazelwood ever since I read The Love Hypothesis, but I had my doubts about picking up this book. With very few exceptions, vampire stories are not my thing, and I'd never read a book involving werewolves or shifters before, so I expected some level of disappointment. I was wrong. Very wrong.

Instead, I loved the book. I was hooked from page one and could not, literally, put it down. The first part of the story is not just compelling but also very funny as well. The second part of the book is heavier on the romance (and the sex scenes), but equally intense.

And overall, I think it's an amazing story. This is a book I would recommend, even for non-fans of vampires, werewolves and the like.

At the very end of the book, the epilogue hints at a follow up story involving Misery's best friend Serena, so I do hope Ali Hazelwood is planning to turn The Bride into a series and write many more books like this one.

Happy readings!
