Review: The Lady Most Willing

Book Review: The Lady Most Willing, by Julia Quinn & two others, 3 stars

During their annual Christmas pilgrimage to Scotland to visit their aged uncle in his decrepit castle, the Comte de Rocheforte and his cousin, Earl of Oakley, are presented with rather . . . unique gifts. Their Uncle is determined that his ancient (if not so honorable) birthright be secured before he dies and since neither nephew seemed in enough of a hurry to wed, the old reprobate has taken matters into his own hands . . . He's raided an English lord's Christmas party and kidnapped four lovely would-be brides for his heirs to choose from - and one very angry duke!

Genre: historical romance

Publication date: December 2012

Mature content: yes

Review: The Lady Most Willing is book 2 in The Lady Most series by authors Julia Quinn, Eloisa James and Connie Brockway and, like book 1, is a story in three parts, with three separate romances that all flow from and along the same background setting. Each book in the series follows the same concept but with totally different characters and stories, so they can be perfectly read as stand alones.

And just like with book 1, I'm not sure the concept works all that well. Because of the short timeline, three couples need to meet and fall in love within a very short period of time, which is in no way realistic. The stories are indeed fun, but if you can't believe they could happen in real life, part of the magic is lost (at least in my opinion).

So...interesting idea but definitely not a book I would actively recommend.
