Review: Shadow Game

Book Review: Shadow Game, by Christine Feehan, 3 stars

The classified experiment is the brainchild of renowned scientist Peter Whitney and his brilliant daughter, Lily. Created to enhance the psychic abilities of an elite squadron, it can transform their natural mental powers into a unique military weapon. But something goes wrong. In the isolated underground labs, the men have been dying-victims of bizarre accidents. Captain Ryland Miller knows he is next. When Dr. Whitney himself is murdered, Ryland has only one person left to trust: the beautiful Lily. Possessed of an uncanny sixth sense herself, Lily shares Ryland's every new fear, every betrayal, every growing suspicion, and every passionate beat of the heart. Together, they will be drawn deeper into the labyrinth of her father's past and closer to a secret that someone would kill to keep hidden.

Review: I really wanted to enjoy this book. I thought the synopsis was perfect, with just the right dose of paranormal, romance, suspense and action. And since Shadow Game is book one in a long series, I hoped to be able to read all books in a row.

In reality, I found the connection between Lily and Ryland too much too fast. Half of the book portrays their long telepathic conversations, a lot of them with sexual content. There are more sex scenes that there is action - including one time when Lily and Ryland have sex while sleepwalking together, which brings the "paranormal" thing to a whole new level...

So, unfortunately, and no matter how many raving reviews this book has on Amazon and Goodreads, I can't bring myself to actively recommend it, and I don't think I will be reading the next books in the series any time soon.

Happy readings otherwise,
