Gabriella – Gabby for short – desperately needs a holiday. She's worked way too hard, just lost her father and wants a break. From everything. She books a stay at a picturesque cottage by the sea. No phone, no internet, no neighbors – just books, a bottle of wine and the beach. A month without distraction and a chance to find herself again. Until a hunk of a guy suddenly shows up catching her sunbathing in her birthday suit. The man is hot as sin. Jake Wolfe is cocky and stubborn too. Double booked. Double trouble. Stuck on an island with a stranger, they try to make the best of it, but get on each other's nerves. When a drunken night leads to steamy passion, they realize something's brewing, and like the unpredictability of stormy weather, things could get rough.

Review: I downloaded this book for free from Amazon and for the first part, I was actually pleasantly surprised. Even though Gabby and Jake behave like spoiled teenagers when they first meet, there's an interesting story behind each of them and I was kind of glued to the book waiting for the plot to evolve.
The story does evolve, and all is well for a while, but then it becomes a bit repetitive - because yes, there's only so much two people can do on an otherwise deserted island for one month. But that would have been ok if just before the end, the plot hadn't complicated a bit too much.
Basically, this is a book that doesn't end. It's supposed to continue onto books 2 and 3 - and unfortunately, reading the synopsis of those two other books I'm not convinced I want to buy them.
The book is still free, so if you're looking for an inexpensive book to spend a couple of hours with, then you may want to give Surging Tide a try. If you're someone who cannot bear to be left at a cliffhanger and needs to know what else happened to the characters, make sure you're committed to buying the other two books before engaging with this one.
Personally, I would have preferred just a simple romance between Gabby and Jake. I do feel they deserve their happily ever after finale, but I have the feeling the story is going to complicate way too much before they get there and I'm not really up for it right now.
