Review: A Ticking Time Boss

Book Review: A Ticking Time Boss, by Olivia Hayle, 4 stars

Carter Kingsley: My savior and ruthless corporate raider hell bent on destroying the newspaper I love. Oh, and my new boss.

His first order of business? Cut half the staff. I should hate him. Easy, right?

Wrong. I met him two weeks ago, when he saved me from the most awkward first date of my life. I was looking for a way out when he strolled up in a ten-thousand dollar suit with a winning smile, and told a white lie that turned the date from hell into heavenly bliss.

I left with his number in my phone, and spent the next two weeks staying up late to text him. He's charming. Funny. Sincere.

Completely unlike the ruthless villain who comes in and carves us up.

My first order of business is to interview the new boss. But who is sitting on the other side of the desk? The man who saved and charmed me, or the one who’s threatening everything I hold dear?

Genre: contemporary romance

Publication date: February 2022

Mature content: yes

Review: A Ticking Time Boss is book 4 in the New York Billionaires series and while it's not my all-time favorite (book 2 is the best, in my opinion), it's still a great book if you like the genre.

I loved how Carter and Audrey meet, I loved their texting back and forward before they realise he's her new boss - and even afterwards.

The rest of the plot, however, I found it a bit weaker. I would have loved a bit more insight into the workings of the newspaper and to really understand Carter's strategy to save it (business-wise). The budget cuts and the employees being fired are mentioned a lot, but the actual things he's trying to build seem to be missing (other than the fact that he hires former PIs to be part of the investigative reporters team...).

Ramblings above aside, the romance is hot and the happily ever after sweet, and A Ticking Time Boss will still hold your attention until the end.

Happy readings!
