Review: Dragonlfly in Amber (Outlander book 2)

Review: Dragonlfly in Amber (Outlander book 2)

For twenty years, Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to the mysteries of Scotland’s mist-shrouded Highlands. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as shocking as the events that gave it birth: the secret of an ancient circle of standing stones, the secret of a love that transcends centuries, and the truth of a man named Jamie Fraser—a Highland warrior whose gallantry once drew the young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his. Claire’s spellbinding journey continues through the intrigue-ridden French court and the menace of Jacobite plots, to the Highlands of Scotland, through war and death in a desperate fight to save both the child and the man she loves.

Genre: historical romance/time travel

Publication date: August 2011 (for the current Kindle version)

Review: Outlander is the kind of series where, no matter how long the books are, you always have to read the next installment (find my review of Outlander, book 1, here).

Dragonfly in Amber starts in a very intriguing way, then moves to France and the court of King Louis - and that part was the one I loved the least. Not only Jamie behaves in a way that is completely different from his usual manners - save a few exceptions - but also Claire makes choices that seem strange and debatable (not that I was always in agreement with her choices in book one either).

But then the action moves back to Scotland, and things finally improve. Jamie is back to his old self, and the story picks up the same epic tone of book one.

And even if you've seen the TV series and already know how it goes, the ending of Dragonfly in Amber still packs a punch. And now I have, of course, to read book 3...

Remember that Dragonfly in Amber is book two in the Outlander series and it's not a book that can be read as a stand alone. You need to have read book 1 before.

Happy readings,
