Review: Heart of Stone

Book Review: Heart of Stone, by Kaylin Evans, 4 stars

I came to Mountainside Hospital to escape.

A mountain of debt.

An addict father.

A disloyal family.

This place is supposed to be my chance to start over, get out of debt, and if I stick around five years, I’ll be living the new American dream - no student loans.

But a cocky hotshot surgeon gunning for my job - chief of surgery - is determined to get in my way.

He thinks he can have my job - and me - but this town isn’t big enough for the two of us.

And I’m not going anywhere.

Genre: contemporary romance

Publication date: June 2021

Mature content: yes

Review: Heart of Stone is book 2 in the Mountainview Hospital series by Kaylin Evans, but I read it as a stand alone and didn't feel I was missing anything important.

Overall, the story is fairly entertaining and the characters are mostly Ok. I found the sex scenes a bit over the top when compared the rest of the plot - even the crude language seems to be at odds with the usual characters' interactions.

Four stars because of the small inconsistencies here and there, but a good book nonetheless.

Happy readings!
