Review: The Fall Groom

Book Review: The Fall Groom, by A. Riley, 1 star

Gracie is a mail carrier in Hollow Oak and knows everyone in town. When the recluse on her route complains that she’s taken the day off, it’s time she introduces herself properly.

Donovan’s scars force him to stay hidden from the world, but a pretty mail carrier with colorful bows in her hair makes him want to come out of the shadows. How can he make her his when he’s afraid of what she might think of him?

Genre: contemporary romance

Publication date: November 2021

Mature content: yes

Review: No matter how many raving reviews on Amazon, unfortunately this book did not work for me. There's limited character development and the two man characters have very limited interaction until the day they finally exchange more than a few words. Five minutes later they are having sex. And that pretty much sums up the plot. Donovan sounds weird and controlling, and Gracie plays the part of the young, silly, submissive girl very well.

I didn't even finish reading it. At some point I just jumped to the last few pages to see if Gracie and Donovan at least had their happily ever after - and I landed in the middle of another sex scene.

I'm not a prude and I have nothing against sex scenes in books, but I prefer to have a consistent and convincing plot and characters to go along. The synopsis was what originally drew me to The Fall Groom, but now I just can't bring myself to recommend it.

Happy readings!
