Review: Love Under Quarantine

Book Review: Love Under Quarantine, by Kylie Scott and Audrey Carlan, 2 stars

While the world is ravaged by a global pandemic, hotshot NFL running back Evan Sparks is locked in his own personal hell. With a career-ending scandal on his back, Evan hides out in his best friend’s empty San Francisco home, the full city shutdown locking him in a lonely twenty-story apartment in the sky.

Romance writer Sadie Walsh is having the worst case of writer’s block ever…until the incredible, muscular stranger staying next door gets her muse going strong. The pair of loners, never expecting to find a friend in all the madness, meet each day out on their balconies like a modern-day Romeo and Juliet.

Each new day brings unique challenges for the pair as they navigate the unknown and find solace together. They quickly figure out that as long as they have one another, they can handle anything.

Even falling in love under quarantine.

Review: This was the first book I read that broached the subject of the current pandemic heads on, and I had somewhat high expectations for it. The first few pages were ok, but afterwords I became really disappointed.

I believe the plot actually had some potential, but the almost continuous sequence of graphical sex scenes was way over the top. I'm not a prude and I don't mind well placed sex scenes in the books I read, but it this case, they take over the whole story. I don't even see how Sadie and Evan fell in love. There's a lot of lust going around, but love? I'm not convinced.

So while I think the background of Love Under Quarantine was interesting and I haven't seen a lot of authors yet taking the leap and writing about the difficult world we all live in now, I can't bing myself to recommend this book, unless you want to read it just for the erotica.

Happy readings otherwise!
