Review: Unknown Threat

Book Review: Unknown Threat, by Lynn H. Blackburn, 4 stars

US Secret Service Special Agent Luke Powell is lucky to be alive. Three of his fellow agents have died in unusual circumstances in the past ten weeks. Luke is devastated by the loss of his friends and colleagues, and his inability to locate the killer feels like a personal failure. He's an expert at shielding others, but now the protectors are in need of protection.

FBI Special Agent Faith Malone is driven to succeed and confident in her ability to solve every case she's assigned. She's been put in charge of the investigation into the unprecedented attacks, and with Luke's life in danger, the stakes have never been higher. But it's hard to know how to fight back when you don't know who the enemy is.

As more agents are targeted, Luke and Faith will have to work together to bring a killer to justice and prevent any more names from joining their fallen brothers and sisters on the Secret Service Wall of Honor.

Review: I loved reading Unknown Threat. The suspense is good, the romance is sweet and the overall story is interesting and fast paced.

I'm not rating it with five stars for three main reasons: (1) even though this is book one in a new series, when I read the first pages I felt I had landed in the middle of a story, not at its beginning; (2) the first interactions between the two main characters are silly and, frankly, both of them behave in a very rude, juvenile way; and (3) towards the end of the book the plot complicates so much, with so many added secondary characters, that I found myself a bit lost.

It is still a great book, if you love the genre and there's an underlying Christian tone that I found warming, showing that even people who have to face violence and crime on a daily basis can still find a way to fit in their faith.

I'm curious about the next books in the series, so I'll be waiting for them.

Happy readings!
