Review: The Tourist Attraction

Review: The Tourist Attraction, by Sarah Morgenthaler, 5 stars

He had a strict "no tourists" policy...until she broke all of his rules. When Graham Barnett named his diner The Tourist Trap, he meant it as a joke. Now he's stuck slinging reindeer dogs to an endless parade of resort visitors who couldn't interest him less. Not even the sweet, enthusiastic tourist in the corner who blushes every time he looks her way...

Two weeks in Alaska isn't just the top item on Zoey Caldwell's bucket list. It's the whole bucket. One look at the mountain town of Moose Springs and she's smitten. But when an act of kindness brings Zoey into Graham's world, she may just find there's more to the grumpy local than meets the eye...and more to love in Moose Springs than just the Alaskan wilderness.

Genre: contemporary romance

Publication date: May 2020

Mature content: yes, but nothing too graphical

Review: I absolutely loved this book. It's probably one of the funniest - and sweetest - romances I've read lately. Graham at first glance looks like the laziest man you've ever seen. He owns the Tourist Trap, a burger joint with the worst customer service. He opens when he wants, closes when he wants and serves just what he feels like serving. And makes his customers clean up the place too. The problem is that as much as he tries to drive them away, customers just keep coming though the door. The worst his service is, the longest is the waiting line. If that's not enough to make you laugh, he also has a moose friend who is keen on making out with his truck.

Zoey, on the other hand, is the perfect tourist. She's awed at the landscape and the whole Alaska experience and she looks at everything through rose tinted lenses. And she certainly breaks through all of Graham's typical tourist stereotypes.

The only thing it didn't work so well for me in the book was the fact that Zoey and Graham could have worked out things between them much sooner. It was so obvious - Zoey loves the place and she's unemployed, so she has really no reason to go back home. That she insists on going seems to just drag on the story up to the point they finally both realise the inevitable - and then cue in the happy ending.

But even despite the above, The Tourist Attraction with make you smile, laugh and feel good and just for that deserves a 5-star rating.

The Tourist Attraction is book one in the Moose Springs, Alaska series and I can't wait to read the other two books.

Happy readings!
