Review: Ride the Tide

Book Review: Ride the Tide, Julie Ann Walker, 3 stars

Former Navy SEAL Mason McCarthy is done being a fighting man. Now he and the Deep Six Salvage crew are working feverishly to find the wreck of the Santa Cristina and its legendary sunken treasure. Unfortunately for Mason's peace of mind, chatty, brilliant historian Alexandra Merriweather has joined the hunt and there's no avoiding her. Alex is exactly the kind of distraction Mason can't afford right now...or maybe ever.

When a murderous enemy from Mason's past threatens the Deep Six, he must rely on old instincts and the skills he honed from years of running black ops to make sure nothing touches Alexandra. But with their lives on the line and the adrenaline running high, it's inevitable that sparks will fly.

Review: I've read other books by Julie Ann Walker, including a few in this Deep Six series, and I have to say I was a bit disappointed with Ride the Tide. There's a lot less action than I expected - just a few scenes at the beginning and and the end of the book, and most of the plot involves sex scenes and the discussion about Alex's virginity and Mason's refusal to get involved with her - although as you can imagine, his reluctancy doesn't last all that much.

Also, a few pages in I was already tired of reading about Mason's accent. There is not need to repeat some 50 plus times that the man comes from Boston...

Bonus points for the witty dialogues and the banter between the characters, with will for sure leave you with a smile on your face.

Happy readings!
