Book Review: The Escape, by Lisa Harris, 3 stars

US Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn are thrust into a high-profile case when they are called on to transport two prisoners across the country on a private plane. But when the plane experiences engine trouble en route from the Pacific Northwest to Colorado, the pilots crash-land the aircraft deep in the heart of the sprawling Salmon-Challis National Forest.

When Madison and Jonas regain consciousness, they find both pilots and one prisoner dead--and one fugitive on the run. They'll have to negotiate the rugged and remote backcountry through Idaho, Wyoming, and Colorado while tracking a murderer who is desperate to disappear--and will do anything to stop them.

This high-octane game of cat-and-mouse from bestselling and award-winning author Lisa Harris will have your heart pumping as you try to catch a fugitive with nothing to lose.

Review: This book didn't turn out exactly as I expected. The first part certainly is fast paced but soon after, the escape of a prisoner following a plane crash turns into a never ending list of twists and turns. After a while I just couldn't keep track and just hoped Madison and Jonas got to the end of the investigation soon. And then I got to end...and was left in a bit of cliffhanger for the next book in the series.

From the action/suspense perspective, The Escape is not that bad, even if some scenes could have been trimmed down and if a few details don't add up (such as, for example, the fact Madison and Jonas leave the scene of a plane crash with injuries - minor, but injuries anyway - and no one bothers having them checked out before letting them jump on yet another plane for the rest of their pursuit).

From the romance perspective - don't expect any. Even if with the Christian undertone of the book I knew there wouldn't be anything graphic, the point is that there is no romance at all. Madison is mourning her dead husband and Jonas is mourning a relationship that did not evolve the way he expected. In some places you feel they may be just a bit attracted to each other, but that's all there is. Maybe there's more in the next book, but I'm not keeping my hopes too high.

If you just love a good chase, though, you may want to give The Escape a try.

Happy readings!
