Book Review: Come Lie With Me, by Linda Howard, 4 stars

✩✩

After a horrific accident leaves Blake Remington unable to walk, he becomes bitter, frustrated and angry. Even his beautiful physiotherapist, Dione Kelley, has trouble breaking through the walls he’s put up.
Dione knows that falling for a patient is outofbounds, but there’s something so appealing about Blake, despite his anger. The more she works with him, the more she can see a quiet strength shining through his darkness. Soon, she starts to see the passionate, loving man he once was. But are his feelings for her just gratitude, or evidence of true love?

Genre: contemporary romance

Publication date: February 2016 (for the current Kindle version; the original book is from the 80s)

Mature content: yes

Review: I had a few reservations when I started reading this book. While I love Linda Howard's more recent novels, some of her older stories tend to make me cringe - and not just because they're outdated.

Come Lie With Me is actually not so bad. While the title (and the cover) seem to hint at one of those stories with more sex than plot, it's not true. I did like the book.

The plot is actually there and fairly interesting, at least at first. Some parts are funny, while others are more serious. The only totally silly part is when Dione decides to seduce Blake to prove to him he's still a man with all functioning parts. That was unprofessional and uncalled for, and sort of ruined what could have been a perfect book otherwise.

Other than that, it's a good book to keep you entertained and works great as a summer read.

 Happy readings!
