Review: The Red Door Inn

Book Review: The Red Door Inn, by Liz Johnson, 4 stars

Marie Carrington is running from a host of bad memories. Broke and desperate, she's hoping to find safety and sanctuary on Prince Edward Island, where she reluctantly agrees to help decorate a renovated bed-and-breakfast before it opens for prime tourist season.
Seth Sloane didn't move three thousand miles to work on his uncle's B&B so he could babysit a woman with a taste for expensive antiques and a bewildering habit of jumping every time he brushes past her. He came to help restore the old Victorian--and to forget about the fiancée who broke his heart.
The only thing Marie and Seth agree on is that getting the Red Door Inn ready to open in just two months will take everything they've got. Can these two wounded souls find hope, healing, and perhaps a bit of romance on this beautiful island?

Review: The Red Door Inn is a beautiful story about love, loss, second chances and making your dreams come true.

Jack Sloane has been following his late wife's dream of owning an inn on Prince Edward Island, but he forgot how to live his own life. In the process of making Rose's dream come true - opening The Red Door Inn - he will also discover happiness and a future he never expected he could still have.

Seth, his nephew, came to the island to help with the renovations after losing his company, his savings - and his heart.

And Marie is running from the only family she has - and who let her down in the worst possible way. Living with Jack and Seth, working to get the inn up and running, makes her realize that home is where your heart is, and that family are those who love you no matter what, with our without biological bonds.

For me, there was only one thing missing in the book: I failed to grasp the exact moment Seth and Marie fall in love. Mostly because Seth seems so hard to like. He was so rude to her at the beginning, then suddenly he's too attracted to her, then once more goes back to being, in his own words, a jerk, and right after that he's asking for a second chance. His inconstant ways were really annoying, and they're the reason I can't bring myself to rate The Red Door Inn with five stars.

Despite my rants above, The Red Door Inn is still a lovely book, with two clean romances happening simultaneously, and with a nice Christian undertone. Recommended.

Happy readings,
