Review: Legacy

Book Review: Legacy, by Tana Stone, 5 stars

Ariana is the first human instructor at the Drexian Academy and the first female to teach flight to cocky cadets. She’s the best Earth has to offer with a lot to prove. But it will take more than being the best to survive the secret requirements, unwritten rules, and ancient traditions of the alien military training school.

Volten lacks the one thing Drexians value most—a proud and respected clan. He’s risen to the position of flight instructor at the academy without a lineage to speak of, but not without paying a steep price. One thing he doesn’t count on as he ascends the ranks is the beautiful human pilot who might threaten everything that’s within his grasp.

Within the dark walls of the school lie secrets that could tear both pilots’ worlds apart. Beyond the stone towers and cruel spires are dangers neither could imagine. Will these wings go as one. . . risk it all to break the rules. . . or break each other?

Review: Even though I didn't have a great experience with previous books by this author, the synopsis of Legacy caught me attention and I decided to give it a try. And I'm very glad I did.

I found Legacy much better that any other book I read before by Tana Stone. There's an actual, structured plot, with the right amount of suspense - and yes, romance too - and not a succession of sex scenes with almost nothing in between.

I did like the concept of the plot - the alien Academy, the training of the warriors ad all the different opinions about the inclusion of humans in the Dexian traditions. There were a few hiccups here and there (such as the fact that Volten seems to take one look at Ariana and think that she'd his), but overall Legacy got me hooked from the first pages until the very end.

I has hoping the next book would be about Vyk, the new Academy head of security, and instead it's going to feature two cadets, one of which I really didn't like throughout most of Legacy, but in any case, I loved Legacy so much that I'll be waiting for Loyalty to be published and I definitely want to read it.
