Review: Sunrise in Thailand

Book Review: Sunrise in Thailand, by Angela Lark, 3 stars

After losing her boyfriend, Julie spontaneously leaves behind her home in Texas on a one-way flight to Thailand. After breaking up with his girlfriend a week before their trip to Thailand, Lukas happily returns to South East Asia alone after saving up for a year back home in Norway. Despite their recent failed relationships, when Lukas and Julie meet in a hostel on their first day in Bangkok, an attraction sparks almost instantly. Although they don’t acknowledge the attraction as they travel Thailand together, ignoring the attraction becomes harder and harder. Will they find the courage to cross the line of friendship? And will Julie tell Lukas why she's really in Thailand?

Genre: contemporary romance

Publication date: October 2021

Mature content: yes

Review: I really loved the first part of this book, so much that I was willing to overlook the writing, that is a bit weird here and there, and the fact that some of the character's choices are questionable, and still give it a good rating.

But then, just when the story was getting interesting...the book ends. On a total and complete cliffhanger.

Yes, I knew this was book one in a series, but even then I expected it to have a beginning, a middle and an ending. Instead, the story is cut mid-action. I will be on the lookout for book two (hoping the characters can get closure there) but I'm not keeping my hopes up.

Happy readings!
