Straight-laced Millie Desmond has one goal: to save her brother from an incurable disease, even if that means stealing from drug dealers to pay for his treatment. But when a man with dark eyes saves her from harm, Millie contemplates her decision to swear off men. Her sole responsibility is her brother, and yet the mysterious Daren stirs her deepest desires. When he reveals his true form, Millie realizes her brother's life can be longer than ten short years—if she can convince Daren to break his promise.
For centuries, Daren Roberts has searched for complete solitude. But as the time to finally withdraw nears, his itch to hunt one last time gets him hooked on Amelia’s pure scent. As his arch-nemesis closes in on him, Daren knows Millie and her brother are in danger. He must protect them, and that means raging with his heart. Will he break his promise never to change another human? Will he save their lives?

Review: Kind of entertaining, but not convincing - this is probably the best way to describe A Taste After Dark. I found the story too strange and unrealistic. Yes, it's a vampire novel - so by definition it's unrealistic anyway - but some of the characters behaved in a very weird way.

Millie, in particular, is described as a straight-laced girl, but she has no problem in stealing (though just from the bad guys, and for a good reason, of course), in messing up with total strangers and when it seems she seems about to be raped, she actually enjoys it. She trusts Daren when the looks to be nothing more than a stalker or a raper, not to mention his strange behavior and inhuman abilities. Either she has a strange way to show fear or she's just too silly to realize the seriousness of her situation. I couldn't make up my mind, but after that the story lost some of its appeal.

And the plot itself has a few holes too, as if some pieces of a puzzle are missing. It's just confusing in places.

Overall, three stars just for keeping me entertained, especially at the beginning, but A Taste After Dark is not a book I would actively recommend.

Happy readings,
