Book Review: A Daring Sacrifice, by Jody Hedlund, 4 stars

✩✩

In a reverse twist on the Robin Hood story, a young medieval maiden stands up for the rights of the mistreated, stealing from the rich to give to the poor. All the while, she fights against her cruel uncle who has taken over the land that is rightfully hers. Forced to live in the woods and hide with the poor people she's grown to love, she works to save and protect them, but she never anticipates falling in love with the wealthy knight who represents all she's come to despise.

Genre: historical romance

Publication date: March 2016

Review: A Daring Sacrifice is sort of Robin Hood with a twist. And that part of the book was my favorite. I like strong heroines who can stand up for their own. What Juliana does, especially at that time and place, is worthy of praise. Colin also steps into the role of knight in shining armor flawlessly and his dialogs with Juliana are priceless.

I found the whole setting of the book a little less realistic than the other two in the series (A Daring Sacrifice is book two, but it can be read stand alone or out of order, like I did). In the end all issues are resolved too quickly and too effortlessly - and I doubt in real life that could happen. And there are several other places in the story where readers could benefit from a little more detail.

And that's the only reason I'm rating A Daring Sacrifice with four instead of five stars. Still, it is a lovely romance story and I recommend it.

Happy readings,
