Review: The Magnolia Story

Book Review: The Magnolia Story, by Chip and Joanna Gaines

Are you ready to see your fixer upper?
These famous words are now synonymous with the dynamic husband-and-wife team Chip and Joanna Gaines, stars of HGTV’s Fixer Upper. As this question fills the airwaves with anticipation, their legions of fans continue to multiply and ask a different series of questions, like—Who are these people? What’s the secret to their success? And is Chip actually that funny in real life? By renovating homes in Waco, Texas, and changing lives in such a winsome and engaging way, Chip and Joanna have become more than just the stars of Fixer Upper, they have become America’s new best friends.
The Magnolia Story is the first book from Chip and Joanna, offering their fans a detailed look at their life together. From the very first renovation project they ever tackled together, to the project that nearly cost them everything; from the childhood memories that shaped them, to the twists and turns that led them to the life they share on the farm today.

Review: I loved reading the Magnolia Story and I can say this from a totally independent point of view, because I've never seen their show before. Actually, before seeing this book as a new release on Amazon a few months ago, I had no idea who Chip and Joanna Gaines were. Going through the synopsis I decided I wanted to give it a try, and now I'm very, very glad I did.

The book is written alternatively by Chip and Joanna, so it seems that there's a dialog going on between them as well, and you get to see both their points of view. I loved reading about their ups and downs and, ultimately about their love for each other and their family. As a working mother, I sympathize with a lot of what Joanna felt when her children were younger and I'm glad she had the courage to confess her inner thoughts, fears and guilt and explain her choices on matters that unfortunately are still often controversial. On a side note, I'm not sure I could live with a man like Chip, but I realize from the book (again, I've never seen the show) that he and Joanna are meant for each other and a great team.

Overall, The Magnolia Story is a wonderful book, easy to read and inspirational. Totally recommended.

Happy readings,
