Review: Holiday Games

Book Review: Holiday Games, by Jaci Burton

All Elizabeth and Gavin Riley want for Christmas is a baby. Despite over a year of trying, conception hasn’t been successful. But for a high-achiever like Elizabeth, she must succeed at everything. That means making the very most of every opportunity with her husband. And when it comes to nonstop sex Gavin’s not really complaining. Exhausted, maybe...
Unfortunately, this holiday season they’re not exactly given a lot of private time. Elizabeth is hosting the holiday, Gavin’s sister is getting married, and the house is wall-to-wall with family. For Elizabeth and Gavin the nights may be chilly, but the urge is still hot. And they’re not about to let any distraction get in the way of their necessary pleasures during a holiday game that yields so many unexpected surprises.

Genre: contemporary romance

Publishing date: November 2013

Mature content: yes

Review: I was a bit disappointed with this book. Most of the blame is one me, because I was looking for a quick holidays read and thought this might be it. Well, it's certainly a quick read. And it takes place during the holidays season. But that's as far as it goes. Otherwise, this is basically a story about what a couple does when they're trying to have a baby. Yes, you guessed: sex.
I haven't read most of the other books in the series, so maybe that's part of the problem, because I couldn't relate to some of the characters. Still, that doesn't detract from the fact that most of this book is a succession of sex scenes with some plot in between. So maybe this is a passable book if you approach it with the right frame of mind, but I can't bring myself to recommend it.
