Review: Body check is an older book, that's been on my reading list for a while. It's also book 1 in the New York Blades series by Deirdre Martin, which follows the lives (and loves) of the main players in the NY Blades ice hockey team, so it's an interesting, sexy story, perfect for those who love romance novels that revolve around sports.

The plot flows well, the characters are sufficiently developed, and I loved the happy ending. But it still did not wow me. The story is 100% predictable, something I have read in almost all romance novels before - great athlete involves himself with a woman but wants to keep it casual because he thinks falling in love would distract him from whatever sports goals he has and he no longer would be the best...they breakup...and fast forward to an epiphany, where said player realises his sports career isn't everything and he really needs to have a fulfilling personal life...Maybe if the writing was a but more funny and entertaining, the predictability wouldn't be so much in evidence. But instead, it's a bit repetitive and boring in places. No matter how hard I tried, this book wasn't able to keep me awake late into the night.

So, while it is still a lovely romance novel, especially for sports fans, and not bad for a beach or poolside read, it doesn't get more than 4 stars from me.

Happy readings,
