Review: Marry Me at Christmas

✩✩✩✩

To bridal boutique owner Madeline Krug, organizing a Christmas wedding sounds like a joy—until she finds out she'll be working closely with the gorgeous brother of the bride, movie star Jonny Blaze. How will a small-town girl like her keep from falling for the world's sexiest guy? Especially with mistletoe lurking around every corner!

Jonny came to Fool's Gold looking for normal, not for love. Happily-ever-after only happens in the movies. Still, nothing about this quirky town is quite what he expected, and "ordinary" Madeline is the most extraordinary woman he's ever met. Refreshingly honest, disarmingly sweet. Achingly beautiful.

Planning the perfect wedding leads to candlelit dinners and strolls through snow-covered streets. And Madeline finds Jonny in real life even more captivating than her celebrity crush. But will the action star be brave enough to risk his heart and step into the role of a lifetime?

Review:

Like I said last Wednesday, when I posted that I had started reading this book, I was curious about Jonny and Madeline's story ever since I read the previous books (Kiss Me and Thrill Me).  Well, I'm happy to report that Marry Me at Christmas (Fool's Gold) totally delivers.

I haven't read all the other book in the series, but I noticed a difference in this one when compared to the two previous ones: there are zero graphic sex scenes. Which only proves that having those described in detail is totally unnecessary in order to have two characters falling in love and reaching a happy ending. In this book, you know they've done the deed, but that's just about it.

I loved both characters and halfway through the book I was kind of wishing I could be snowed in with Jonny myself. My two only complaints are that the ending seemed a bit rushed, as if the author was trying to finish it withing a certain number of pages, and the fact that the story never seems to deal with the fact tat Jonny is a world famous actor. Sure, we see some glimpses of that in the book, but I expected that, at least after he is taken to the ER (too long to explain here, you have to read it, but I promise he was just a bit bruised) some reporter would have shown up. While I was not keen on having either Jonny or Madeline hounded by paparazzis, it would make sense to have them address, in some way, Jonny's fame and the impact it could have on their future life together.

Other than that, it is a sweet, clean romance, ideal for a lazy, rainy afternoon. While it is predictable and will not add much to your general culture, it is an easy, heartwarming read and I totally recommend it!

Oh, and I will most certainly read more books by Susan Mallery, I'm really enjoying this series!

Have a great weekend!
